PROJECT TEACHER

The project where you become the teacher!

This will be the culminating project of your fourth grade experience and an opportunity for you to share with your fellow students and teacher some skill or knowledge that you possess. 

 Requirements:

  • You will prepare and present a five to ten minute talk on a topic of your choice on a date assigned by your teacher (June 1, 2, or 3)
    • The “sky is the limit” for the topic that you choose, however it should be something you are very familiar with.  The DUE DATE for your topic choice is Friday, May 29 ; submit your name and topic on an index card or loose-leaf paper.
    • Your project should take the form of a “how to” demonstration - for instance, how to…build a kite, decorate a cake, ride a skateboard.
    • If it is an activity that the class can participate in, you are responsible for bringing in all the materials (enough for 21 students); this is NOT a required element of your project.

 

  • In addition to preparing your materials, you also need to include a visual of some kind. 
    • This could take the form of 1) a poster outlining materials, procedure, etc. 2) a handout with diagrams, procedure, etc., 3) examples of whatever you will be constructing or using for your project, 4) other possibilities?...check with your teacher

     

  • When preparing your talk, keep in mind these elements of effective public speaking:
    • An introduction to capture interest in your topic
    • Summary of key points
    • Prompting for questions at the end
    • Appropriate volume and projection of your voice
    • Good eye contact with your audience

Evaluation:

25% Evidence of preparation and practice; obvious prior knowledge of the topic

25% Use of a visual element as described above

50% Quality of presentation - ability to be heard and understood by all
